      RICHMOND, Va., (April 15, 2013) – Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) won 15 awards during the recent 10th Annual Service Industry Advertising Awards (SIAA) competition. 

      The Service Industry Advertising Awards focus on recognizing creativity and advertising excellence among service industry providers. This year, close to 2,000 entries were received from more than 400 advertising agencies and 1,000 institutions.

      ND&P received 7 gold awards, 2 silvers, 3 bronzes and 3 merit awards.

      “This further demonstrates the hard work, effort and dedication that we strive to accomplish each day for our clients,” said Danny Fell, president of ND&P.

      Judges analyzed the submissions based on execution, creativity, quality, consumer appeal and overall breakthrough advertising content. The awards recognized ND&P’s work for Super Sonic Soul Show (two golds in the categories of Magazine Single and Total Advertising and silver in the category of logo/ letterhead) and the Virginia State Police, winning gold for the “Spot the Fraud Banner” ad in the category of New Media, silver for the “Steering Wheel Bag” ad in the category of Imprinted Materials, and a merit award for the “Football Ad” in the Magazine Single category.

      The agency also won two gold awards for its work for Keswick Hall.

    • Agency carries away People’s Choice, Best-in-Broadcast and Creative Excellence Awards

      RICHMOND, Va. – In recognition of its creative excellence in the art of advertising, Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) won a total of 19 ADDY awards this past weekend during ADDY Awards Galas in Roanoke and Chattanooga, Tenn.

       

      In Roanoke, the agency won 10 awards and received top honors, winning both the Best in Broadcast award and the coveted Howard Packett Award for Creative Excellence for a Friendship Retirement Community television commercial.

       

      “Winning this type of recognition from our peers continues to inspire us,” said John Greissmayer, Chief Creative Officer for ND&P.

       

      In Chattanooga, the agency was recognized by its peers with the People’s Choice Award and a Gold Addy for its work on the SuperSonic Soul website.  In all, the agency took home nine awards in the Chattanooga market.

    • Neathawk Dubuque & Packett strengthens management with two new positions

      RICHMOND, Va. – Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) today announced two new positions – controller and director of account service – to strengthen its management.

      The full-service advertising, marketing and public relations agency, with offices throughout the Southeast, named Michelle Antolini Ward as controller. With extensive experience in service industries, including the financial management of a multi-entity organization across different states, Ward comes to ND&P from Bizport LTD. and The McCammon Group LTD, where she managed accounting operations for investor-owned and operated companies.

      ND&P also named its first director of account service. Todd Foutz, executive vice president in the company’s Roanoke, Va., office, is assuming the title in addition to his current role to oversee the agency’s growing client account service requirements.

      “The additional positions we are announcing today position us well for future growth and opportunities,” said Roger Neathawk, chairman and CEO. “Michelle will help us continue to excel financially while Todd’s additional duties will ensure that we provide consistent customer service delivered with creativity and passion.”

      The new positions follow the promotion late last year of Danny Fell to president and the acquisition of Roanoke-based The Becher Agency, providing ND&P with a diverse portfolio and expanded capabilities in public relations.

      Ward, who has held accounting and controller positions for a number of companies in the legal, professional services, and printing sectors, is a graduate of Virginia Tech with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

      Foutz, who joined ND&P with the acquisition of The Packett Group in 2004, has more than 25 years of agency experience, including time with The Martin Agency and Earle Palmer Brown. He has led national campaigns for Mercedes-Benz, Carl Zeiss Optics, ChapStick and other national brands.

      More recently, Foutz has managed educational and awareness campaigns for healthcare, higher education, hospitality, defense and other industrires. He is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Mass Communications.

    • RICHMOND, Va. – Robert J. Reid has been promoted to Media Director at Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P).

Rob is a well-respected member of the ND&P team, someone whom we regularly turn to for his strategic and thoughtful approach to media planning.       Reid currently oversees media planning and buying for some of the agency’s key accounts such as VCU Medical Center and AnMed Health.

      Reid joined ND&P in 2008 as Media Buyer and was promoted to Associate Media Director shortly thereafter. Reid previously worked at RightMinds, Cavalier Telephone and S&K Famous Brands, all in Richmond, as well as at Kinsella Communications in D.C. His experience also includes stints at The Fauquier Citizen in Warrenton, Va. and The Daily Beacon in Knoxville, Tenn.

      Reid is also active in the local advertising community and has volunteered for the Richmond Ad Club by recently serving as treasurer and then president. During his tenure as president, he increased membership by 50 percent and developed an internal marketing campaign to align, motivate, and empower board members.

       He is a cum laude graduate of the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science in communications with a minor in business.

  • January 15, 2013 A Great Big Nudge for the New Year

    • Neathawk Dubuque & Packett kicks off a healthy 2013 with inter-office competition

      Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P), a full-service advertising, marketing and public relations agency, is taking New Year’s resolutions seriously in 2013. Beginning on January 14, the agency is launching Nudge, a new well-being program, to start a healthy and fun competition among its offices.

      Nudge, a new browser-based health app, is designed to help employers raise awareness about healthy habits and motivate their workers. The app creates an individual fitness plan for each person. Users log their fitness activities, from eating fruits and vegetables to walking up the stairs, and the app reflects their progress. The multi-platform app can be accessed from a laptop, desktop, tablet or smart phone.

      “Many of us look at the new year as a fresh start and chance to improve our health,” said Roger Neathawk, chairman and CEO. “But most of us don’t have the stick-to-it-ness needed over the long haul – especially when we jump into a full-on fitness program. That’s the beauty of the Nudge program. Nudge encourages us to make small changes each day and by tracking and reminding us, we can implement long-term success.”

      ND&P employees will split into three teams – one for each office in Richmond, Roanoke and Chattanooga, Tenn. After creating an account through their device of choice, employees will be encouraged to record diet, exercise and sleeping habits. Points are awarded to the individuals and team based on daily efforts. The competition will run over three separate six-week periods.

    • Two Best of Shows among awards for excellence in public relations

      Neathawk Dubuque & Packett won 15 Summit Awards – the most of any entrant – from the Blue Ridge Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America for excellence in public relations.

      The firm won both Best of Show awards for the highest-rated public relations work of the past year.

      ND&P won four awards for its work to create Save a Ton, a campaign funded by client Roanoke County to encourage people to save money while reducing energy consumption. Save a Ton won gold in three categories: Community Partnerships, Green Efforts and the Lin Chaff Award for Creativity. The campaign also won a Best of Show award for the highest score in the modest budget category.

      In addition, ND&P won four awards – one gold in Audio-Visual Short Format, two silvers (Lin Chaff Award for Creativity and Print Publications) and a Best of Show in the average budget category – for its work for AnMed Health. Respondents who would use AnMed Health for heart care increased 30% from 2009 to 2011, according to a followup consumer research study.

      ND&P’s other awards included:

    • Two advertising and public relations firms to create largest agency in Roanoke Valley

      RICHMOND, Va. (August 16, 2012) -- Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P), a full-service advertising, marketing and public relations agency, today announced plans to acquire The Becher Agency (tba) of Roanoke in a move that creates a firm with the greatest breadth and depth of services in the Roanoke Valley.

      “We are delighted to grow our locally managed office with the acquisition of a well-respected and well-connected agency with particularly strong capabilities and award-winning results in public relations,” said Roger Neathawk, chairman and CEO.  “Our combined staffs, comprising some of the most talented and recognized advertising professionals in the region, will provide clients with unprecedented expertise in creative services, online interaction, social media, public relations and other communications that help businesses and organizations succeed.”

      Thomas Becher, owner and president of The Becher Agency, will join ND&P as senior vice president, leading the combined company’s public relations and crisis communications practices.

      “We look forward to bringing our expertise to a larger team of professional communicators to better serve a variety of organizations,” Becher said. “Both firms share a great deal of respect for each other, and we have previously worked together to provide outstanding service to mutual clients.       The Becher Agency has offices at Warehouse Row, 119 Norfolk Ave., in downtown Roanoke and the Corporate Research Center in Blacksburg. Upon the transaction, Becher Agency employees will move into ND&P’s office at 410 S. Jefferson St. in Roanoke The combined company will retain the Blacksburg office to serve clients in the New River Valley.

      Once the acquisition closes, ND&P will have 54 employees in Roanoke, Richmond, Chattanooga, Tenn., Charlotte and Durham, N.C., and Tampa, Fla. The combined entity will total 17 full-time positions in Roanoke office.

      “This merger has many benefits for our clients, including additional creative talent and public relations services that include media relations, corporate communications, speech writing, crisis communications, business continuity, media training, event planning and more,” Neathawk said.

      The deal combines the legacies of two renowned names in the Roanoke advertising market – Howard Packett and John Lambert. ND&P acquired The Packett Group in 2004. Becher purchased the assets of Lambert’s agency in 2006.

      The transaction is scheduled to be effective Sept. 1. Terms of the deal are not being disclosed.

      The AnMed Health (Anderson, SC) “Out of Sync Cardiovascular” campaign took home a Silver in the Total Advertising Campaign with TV category.  A VCU Health System (Richmond, VA) lung screening campaign also won a Silver in the Health Promotion category. Rounding out the winners were five Merits – three for VCU, and one each for Franciscan St. Francis Health (Indianapolis, IN) and Massachusetts General Hospital (Boston, MA).

  • April 16, 2012 Friday the 13th Lucky for Local Ad Agency; ND&P Takes Home Best in Show for Design

    • Purses and pockets were quite a bit heavier for ND&P staff leaving Friday the 13th’s Richmond Show awards at The Jefferson Hotel in Richmond, Va.  ND&P took home three of the show’s prestigious cannonballs, including a Best in Show.

      “I’m so pleased to see our team recognized for work representing such a wide range of projects,” said John Griessmayer, ND&P’s chief creative officer. “Whether it’s a fun packaging design for flavored vodka or our own holiday card, our creative folks always find a way to make their work stand out from the rest of the pack.”

      The Richmond Show celebrates the region’s creative community and advertising talent by honoring exceptional work with a coveted cannonball award.

      ND&P won Best in Show in the Design category for their 2011 print holiday card, designed by Grace Milburn under the creative direction of Doug Cook (who was also copywriter on the piece). The card, mailed flat, was designed to be folded and assembled by the recipient into a three-dimensional star.

      The team of John Griessmayer (Creative Director) and Kym Davis (designer) won a silver in the Design category for Dirty Karma vodka bottle design, while ND&P’s own website garnered a silver in the Interactive category. NDP-agency.com’s new face was the brainchild of Creative Director Jason Anderson, Art Director Chereen Baramki, Copywriter Jason Anderson and Programmer Tim Ritzema.

  • April 03, 2012 Six Wins for Neathawk Dubuque and Packett at Western VA ADDYs

    • ND&P Agency Awarded Excellence in Copywriting

      Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) took home a total of six awards at this year’s Western Virginia ADDYs held in Roanoke. The wins include a Gold for the design of the Dirty Karma Vodka bottles for Lifestyle Spirits, a corporation based in Christianburg, VA. The 2011 Refugee Cup Soccer Tournament logo and t-shirt designs both won Silver ADDYs, as did two ND&P self-promotion pieces: the PB&J ad which runs in Healthcare Marketing Report; and the Trusty Notebook which garnered an additional Excellence in Copywriting award.

  • February 20, 2012 Agency Holiday Card Wins Gold at Chattanooga ADDYs; ND&P Also Walks Away with Three Silver Awards

    • Neathawk Dubuque & Packett took home four awards at the Chattanooga ADDYs, including a gold for the agency’s holiday card, a three-dimensional origami star. ND&P designer Grace Milburn said, “For me, the idea for the card was a ‘Eureka’ moment. After that, the biggest challenge was definitely figuring out how to make the paper craft work.” 

      ND&P also received a silver ADDY for a Harry Potter themed poster for the Art’s & Education Council’s 2011 Independent Film Series. The bi-annual series brings award winning, independent films to Chattanooga that would otherwise be unavailable in the city. Meggitt Training Systems’ product photography featuring military simulation, law enforcement and commercial live fire took home a silver as well, as did ND&Ps newly redesigned website.

    • Chelsea Worley has joined Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) in the newly created position of interactive production manager. Her previous experience was at The Johnson Group in Chattanooga. Worley has both a B.A. and M.A. in Communication from the University of Alabama.

    • The digital designer works with the agency's web programmers, creative director, copywriters and content developers to produce, maintain and update content and design for agency-produced and maintained sites. This position reports to the creative director.

      The digital designer creates and assists in developing and managing interactive/web projects. Essential capabilities include the creation of visually dynamic, intuitively functional Internet sites that encompass key marketing tenets, including brand image and strategic objectives. Grounding in user experience design is a must.

      Working with the programmer from a shared creative brief, the digital designer also produces online content, including traditional banner ads, buttons, interstitials, interactive banners, video ads and more. These duties require familiarity with rich media and bandwidth considerations.

      The digital designer should be capable of handling multiple projects, and possess strong interpersonal skills, as well as a well-developed design sensibility and eye for detail. An advanced level of verbal and written communication is vital. The digital designer must be a self-starter, with a keen ability to think well beyond conventional solutions.

  • July 28, 2011 ND&P wins big at Aster and VSHMPR Awards

    • Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) took home a total of seven awards at this
      year's International Aster Awards and Virginia Society for Healthcare Marketing and
      Public Relations (VSHMPR) Measure of Excellence Awards.

      ND&P won a gold Aster Award for the Massachusetts General Hospital "I'm Camera
      Shy" colonoscopy campaign poster. The agency also won a silver medal for a series
      of cinema advertising slides for Shore Health System and three bronze medals for
      work for Massachusetts General and VCU Health System.

      In the Measure of Excellence competition, ND&P won first place in the television
      advertising category for a cardiac TV spot as well as third place in the website
      division for the Winchester Medical Center Bariatric Program.

    • Neathawk Dubuque & Packett, a local advertising agency in Richmond, VA, is celebrating Pet Sitters International Take Your Dog to Work Day on Friday, June 24, 2011. Various activities for both people and pets will include: a raffle, a canned food drive and a Yappy Hour with "pupjitos" and "muttinis." Local pet store For the Love of Pete will be supplying tasty dog biscuits for ND&P's canine visitors, and Follow Me Dog Training is also donating products for the event. Proceeds from the canned food drive and raffle will go towards the local Meals on Wheels “Meals for Pets” program. Raffle tickets cost one dollar or a can of pet food. National Take Your Dog to Work Day encourages businesses to bring their furry friends in to work for a day of canine fun each year in June.

  • July 22, 2011 ND&P Garners Three Wins at 2011 Hermes Awards

    • Neathawk Dubuque & Packett, an advertising and public relations agency, was recognized three times at the 2011 annual Hermes Creative Awards. The agency received two platinum awards, the first for a poster design for the Catholic Diocese of Richmond, and the second for a campaign for Downtown Roanoke Inc. The agency holiday card design won a gold recognition for excellence in advertising.
      The Hermes Awards is an annual international contest for original advertising in concept, writing, and design. Entries are judged by members of the Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals (AMCP). AMCP promotes creative work for nonprofit organizations, a main component of the competition.

  • July 15, 2011 ND&P's Grant Little Selected as President of the Chattanooga Chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts

    • Chattanooga, TN-The Chattanooga chapter of the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), a professional association for designers that serves to inform, communicate, inspire, represent and educate the community about design, has selected ND&P's Grant Little as president. As president, Little will represent the AIGA Chattanooga chapter for the next two years where he will oversee the operations of the chapter and maintain the organization for professionals and students in the area.

      Little has been with the chapter since its inception in 2004. Prior to working with AIGA, he was with another local group, totaling his work with the Chattanooga design community to 12 years. Little has served on the board of the Chattanooga chapter of AIGA since January 2007 as the event director, where he was involved with the planning of several events. Little joined ND&P in January 2005 and is currently a senior designer.

  • June 06, 2011 ND&P Strikes Gold at National ADDY Awards

    • Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) garnered a Gold award in the national ADDY competition winning for a poster campaign for The Perfect Fix, a handyman shop in Forest, Va. The award, which was announced this past Saturday evening at a ceremony held at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, is the agency's first national ADDY win.

      The campaign was created by ND&P's chief creative officer John Griessmayer who served as creative director, along with Kym Davis who provided art direction and Lorie Keyser, copywriting. Each of the three posters in the campaign promotes a particular service offered by the The Perfect Fix handyman shop in a tongue-in-cheek style.

      ND&P's Chairman and CEO Roger Neathawk said, "This is a huge win, not only for the agency and our clients, but for our very talented creative staff. I couldn't be prouder of them, especially John, Kym and Lorie for going the extra mile to create this campaign that makes me chuckle every time I see it."

      Griessmayer said, "To win in a competition that includes entries from throughout America is very exciting. I'm thrilled to see our work and our staff honored in the top awards show in the country."

      Earlier, the posters received a Silver award in the Western Virginia ADDYs, then went on to win a Gold and Best of Show in the District 3 competition, which included entries from Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.       Richmond, VA - Neathawk Dubuque & Packett (ND&P) recently garnered a Best of Show award in the eighth annual Service Industry Advertising Awards (SIAA) competition for a series of print ads for Gaylord Hospital in Wallingford, Connecticut. ND&P also picked up 15 gold, six silver, five bronze and 10 merit awards for a total of 37 awards— more than any other agency in the country.

A poster for the Catholic Diocese of Richmond Office of Vocations garnered the Howard Packett Award for Creative Excellence, which recognizes the very best work in the entire show, regardless of category, as well as Gold and Best-In-Print awards.

      Kevin Fuller of Archrival in Lincoln, Neb., one of the show judges, said, "Advertising the priesthood would seem to be somewhat impossible these days. This poster does so in a way that makes you take notice and makes you think."       Jason Anderson
      Jason has joined ND&P as Creative Director of the Richmond office. He came to Richmond from AdFarm in Kansas City, where he was the Associate Creative Director and worked with Bayer CropScience and Goodyear Tires. Prior to this, he was a Senior Writer at Bernstein-Rein Advertising in Kansas City, where his main clients were Wal-Mart and Time-Warner Cable. Before working in Kansas City, he spent five years working with ad agencies in Atlanta, Georgia. Jason attended the Creative Circus in Atlanta, Georgia.

      Kyle Tallman
      Kyle has joined ND&P as Web Developer in the Chattanooga office. Kyle had been with ND&P as an interactive media intern since February 2008 while completing his B.S. in Marketing from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. With 13,500 entries from all 50 states and around the world, this year's competition was one of the most competitive in the Telly Awards' history. ND&P entered three VCU Medical Center commercials in the competition and won the highest possible award — a silver — for all three. Additionally, the agency also won a silver Telly for the three commercials together as a campaign. The three commercials were produced for the VCU Medical Center, the Pauley Heart Center, and the VCU Massey Cancer Center. The campaign, 'What a Difference a Day Makes', illustrates the 'Red Letter' commercials ND&P produced for the VCU Medical Center. In addition, the agency won a bronze award for the commercial 'Big Idea', produced for Virginia Tech, which was the first advertising done by the University after the tragedy in 2007.

      "While we've won Telly awards before, this year was particularly remarkable because we won four top awards for a single campaign," said ND&P Chief Creative Officer John Griessmayer. "I don't think we've ever done that before, but it shows the level of work you can produce when you have a talented team, a smart client and a great product. We're also really proud that our work for Virginia Tech was recognized, especially since it was done at such a delicate time in the University's history. We're glad we could play a small part in the healing."

      Founded in 1979, the Telly Awards is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest film and video productions, and groundbreaking web commercials, videos and films. Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world. A prestigious judging panel of over 40 accomplished industry professionals, each a past Winner of a Silver Telly, the top honor, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents. Judges evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work — entries do not compete against each other — rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit. Fewer than 10% of entries are chosen as Winners of a Silver Telly, their highest honor. Other outstanding work is awarded a Bronze Telly.

  • October 23, 2008 ND&P Vice President Named to Council of Nation's Largest Organization for Security Professionals

    • V.P. to serve with ASIS International

      After intense evaluation, Ernest DelBuono, Vice President at Neathawk Dubuque & Packett, and the head of ND&P's Crisis and Issues Management Practice Group, has been named to the ASIS International (formerly known as the American Society for Industrial Security), Crisis Management & Business Continuity Council in Alexandria, Virginia. As a member of this council, DelBuono will help to develop and promote crisis management procedures and standards within the public and private sectors. In addition, he will be an instructor at ASIS' annual Crisis Management Seminar which is attended by crisis management professionals from around the world, as well as an expert spokesperson for the media. He will be the only individual representing an advertising and public relations agency out of the numerous candidates considered for this spot.

      DelBuono has more than 25 years experience as a communications, public relations strategist and crisis management expert. Most recently he has advised clients on airline disasters, auto safety (SUV rollovers), food safety, product recalls, physical security, biotechnology, air quality, and issues involving cruise lines and oil tankers. On 9/11, DelBuono managed the family assistance center for family members of victims of the aircraft that crashed into the Pentagon. DelBuono also responded to Hurricane Katrina in Mississippi, where he conducted public affairs for the American Red Cross.

  • October 06, 2008 Richmond's Own 'Sergeant Santa' Authors a Book

    • Book recounts the generous deeds and impact on the community of Richmond Police Officer Ricky Duling

      36 years ago, a local sporting goods store needed someone to play Santa Claus for a TV commercial, and they ended up hiring Richmond Police Officer Ricky Duling for the 'plum' role. Now many years later at age 82, the man known as Sergeant Santa has assembled his considerable memories, photos, stories and experiences into a new book, entitled, The Good Lord Made Me Look This Way for a Reason.

      With his full white beard, bright eyes and rosy cheeks, Officer Duling was the perfect person for this role. In fact, when they taped the commercial he looked so good as Santa that the store let him keep the suit. It was then that he had a revelation.

      "I wondered what would happen if I put on that Santa suit and gave out candy to children in low-income areas children who were afraid of the police," said Duling. "So I bought 300 boxes of candy. The next year I bought 500 boxes and the next year I added cookies, crayons, comic books." He distributed 1,500 gift packages by himself that year and a Richmond tradition was born – Sgt. Santa.

      Today, Sgt. Santa delivers as many as 16,000 packages a year but Duling no longer has to work alone. Sgt. Santa's elves include literally thousands of volunteers – Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, civic and service organizations, church groups, and countless individuals. Even the Richmond City Police Department supports the effort by supplying two police cruisers to deliver presents to children who otherwise might not have a Christmas.

      The book is being sold for $15 with all profits going to Sgt. Santa of Richmond Incorporated, a not-for-profit corporation founded by Duling to sustain his charitable efforts.
